Kim Jong Un crosses new bridge into China for border-city visit

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un crossed the newly opened New Yalu River Bridge into the Chinese border city of Dandong on Saturday, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported, citing a government source. The Guardian also reported the crossing.

China's Xinhua news agency said top political adviser Wang Huning accompanied Kim during the visit, and CNA reported that Kim later returned home.

Why it matters: The bridge opened this month, years after it was completed, and Kyodo News said the trip comes amid a marked improvement in ties between the two countries.
